Delivery & Returns

Manufacturing Time
We state on our website our current manufacturing time. This is a guide of how long it takes from placing your order to when your gate is expected to be made. This is based on our current workload and production speed. When we quote an order due date, this is the expected date the gate will be made, not the delivery date. We will phone / email to confirm a delivery date with you as soon as your order is ready to go.

We strive to keep to our stated manufacturing time, but as 90% of our products are custom sized in some way, we cannot state a delivery date until the order is actually complete and our lead time may become longer than initially stated.

For most orders we use a courier, which operates on a 3 working day service. We are unable to give a time of arrival. Normally a signature is required at the time of delivery and on large / heavy gates it would make sense to have someone to help unload at the delivery location. If you want delivery on a specific day we can arrange an upgraded service. The cost for this is £40 per order.

Whilst every effort will be made to fulfil the agreed delivery date, we cannot guarantee that every single delivery will arrive on time, especially when a third party courier is involved.

Please note if you are employing builders or fitters, please ensure you are in receipt of the goods before committing to an installation date. We cannot be held responsible for any consequential expenses if delivery is delayed or goods arrive damaged.

When your gates are delivered, it is important that you check thoroughly for damage. Although this is rare, if you sign for an item and it is damaged, it will be difficult to prove that it was not damaged after it was delivered. The delivery is insured, but the couriers are very clear that if it is signed for, they will not even consider a claim. It is therefore important that you take the time to ensure you are happy before signing for your goods. Please do not sign as "unchecked".

You have fourteen working days from from the day after you receive your goods to inform us you do not wish to keep them. We will refund all monies paid. You will cover the cost of returning the items to us. You have a statutory duty to take reasonable care of the goods while they are in your possession. If you have modified the product (ie. drilled holes in the gate) you will be deemed not to have taken reasonable care of the goods and we will take action to recover the costs as a result of this. These cancellation rights are not applicable to ‘made-to-measure’ gates etc.

The goods must be returned to us unused, and wherever possible, in the original packaging. We recommend that you retain all of the original packaging until you are sure that you intend to keep the goods. If the original packaging is not available, you should use packaging that would provide similar protection as returned items must be received ‘as new’ and in resaleable condition. Please note: Carriage costs will be refunded only if the item is faulty, or if it differs from the way it was advertised. Returned parcels remain the responsibility of the customer until safely received by us. The company does not pay return carriage unless an item is faulty, or it differs from the way it was advertised.

Returns after the 14 day period will be considered on a case by case basis. The customer will cover the cost of the return carriage and we reserve the right to charge a 25% restocking fee.

If a fault develops with your gate within the warranty period we will endeavor to correct it within a reasonable time frame. The fault must be agreed to be a fault and not a characteristic of timber or damage through misuse. The customer is resposible for return postage costs. See our Warranty page. Any work completed by a third party i.e. electrical/automation etc is warranted by that party and not The Traditional Gate Company.
